Hair loss in men

        Some men in the middle age bracket suffer from hair loss which sometimes affects their self-image. This condition has existed since time immemorial; hence it is not due to modern day style of living. Hair loss in men is caused by a number of factors. One of such is the heightened sensitivity to male sex hormones (androgens) in some parts of the scalp. The hair follicles shrink because of the activity of hormones. This makes them small to the extent that the lost hair cannot be replaced. Actually, between the age of 20 and 30, men begin to suffer from baldness which follows a typical pattern.
       The hairline begins to recede toward the middle of the scalp and at the same time the hair on top of the head becomes thinner. One fact that is worthy of notice is that this condition is hereditary or genetically determined. In other words, this is passed from one generation to another. Thus, the probability of baldness is high among those who have the history of hair loss in their families. Loss of hair in men is natural and it is nothing to feel ashamed of. However, some men may feel it is undesirable and socially demeaning, for such people, there are remedies that could effectively eradicate such condition. There are medical treatments and home-made remedies. 
       Baldness should not give rise to negative feelings since it is something that is natural and not a disease. It is also inherited; hence there is nothing much one could do to prevent it. However, to overcome negative feelings, one could shave the scalp more so when the modern day men’s hairstyle favors complete shave. On the other hand, one could decide to leave it or live with without feeling ashamed.
       Bald men can also embark on medical treatment if they so desire. Medication could be used to regain regular hair strength or extra strength. Medications could be in form of lotions or tablets which may partially block the negative effects of male hormones responsible for hair loss. Hair loss in men could be treated medically to restore the natural luxurious state of hair. Another effective treatment for lack of hair on men’s head is plastic surgery. This could be in form of a transplant, scalp reduction or flap. The process of transplanting involves removing hair from the back of the head to the top which is ideal for those who have limited hair loss at the front of the scalp. However, age, hair color, the nature of hair loss and whether the hair is straight or curly are taken into consideration before this could be embarked upon. Men who have well-defined bald spot on the top of the head could undergo scalp reduction technique. Also, men who have limited loss of hair could undertake flap surgery which involves enlarging the part of the scalp that still has hairs.
